Hommage au Senegal
When I arrived in Senegal in March 2012 to photograph an assignment for an NGO in Switzerland, I never imagined the magical and even mystical way the West African country would shape my career as a photographer.I never thought I would make more than 15 trips to these countries over the next 11 years. I never imagined that the stories that would unfold in front of my camera would lead to winning the World Press Photo Award and the American POYI, two of the most prestigious awards in photojournalism. And I never imagined that the same non-governmental organization that first sent me to Senegal would send me back to this country exactly 11 years later, where my passion for photography would be reignited after the Covid pandemic had such a devastating impact on magazines and newspapers that I even considered giving up. This gallery is a collection of the most magical moments and a tribute to a country to which I feel deeply connected and to which I am deeply grateful.
