Grand Magal Touba, Senegal
November 8, 2017 - During the Grand Magal, all roads in Touba are chronically blocked at day and night, especially around the Grand Mosque. Cars, buses, horse drawn carriages and pedestrians squeeze themselves through the crowds in the streets of the holy city, where 2-3 million people gather for this pilgrimage to commemorate Cheikh Amadou Bamba Mbacké (1853-1927), who was the founder of the Sufi order of the Mourids and is worshiped as a saint by the Senegalese.
