  • Djibril Ndiaye performs a ritual with members of his familiy. He is a very respected marabout and scribe of the Brotherhood of the Layene, poses for a portrait. He claims that he can alter destiny by the using magic ciphers. He is the uncle of the wrestler Kherou Ngor, who is a follwer of the Layene brotherhood like his uncle.  The Layene brotherhood is the third largest of the Sufi brotherhoods of Senegal and is open to all Muslims, but it consists mostly of the Lebou ethnicity who live in fishing communities like Ngor, a quarter of Dakar. Marabout is a title that in Senegal includes clergymen and healers of all kinds, from Islamic scribes and imams to shamans or voodoo wizards.
